Constraint as Material
Practice notes · Method
Treating budgets, codes and deadlines as the primary material of a project.
Every constraint on a project was listed and then ranked by how much form it could generate. The tightest ones turned out to be the most generous.
Ranking the limits
Budget, orientation, code and time were tested one at a time to see which produced geometry rather than compromise.

Reflection
Freedom in design is not the absence of limits. It is choosing which limit to obey first.
