Market Roof in Jaffa

Market Roof in Jaffa

Jaffa, Israel · In construction, 2026

One long roof, four hundred metres of shade, and nothing else.

The market already worked. It only lacked shade and a reason to stay after five. We added a single perforated roof, then spent a year deleting everything else we had drawn.

Working with what already works

The stalls were surveyed for six weeks before a line was drawn. Nothing about the way vendors already used the alley was corrected.

Reflection

The measure of success is that visitors will not notice the architecture — only that they stayed an hour longer than planned.
